Monticello is the former home of former president Thomas Jefferson (now deceased). The kitchen gardens and orchards stood out for their classical symmetry, deep red soils, southern crops and mysterious ceramic pots. Thomas Jefferson was a seed saver from way back.

About these pots. The Monticello website says they are for blanching the spring sprouts of sea kale. Clay pots are also good for clay pot irrigation and refrigeration.
